set design meeting

We greeted the set designers and presented them the song along with our sketched out set designs. We spoke about our 5 different elements and what could potentially and practically work.
A few major points were brought up:

  • The main problem with our idea, is that we have 5 sets. This means that a lot of time will go towards changing the set around and preparing to shoot in each one on the day.

  • The big brown leather chair we must look for in the theatre and props department - as they may have one. Furthermore, it was mentioned that there may be a leather chair in one of the teachers offices around the school. This shouldn't be a massive problem to retrieve. We also discussed having a black curtain behind the rapper set, instead of a flat. This will save us time when switching sets around and shooting.

  • we then spoke about the 3 screens. The set designers spoke about hanging them from the ceiling as an easier option than planted from the floor. We also agreed that 6'3 would be a good height for the screens,

  • Our main problem was the wheel. As I have previously mentioned, we have encountered difficulties with the practicality of the wheel. We discussed alternative options such as acting out as if there is a wheel, when actually we place a tube in front of the camera and shoot through it. In addition to this, having the singer on a raised platform as if she is standing in the wheel and pretending like its there was also a possibility.

  • Another element brought up was the lavender dance element. We were told that instead of having a 12x12ft set using flats, instead use trace and use coloured lighting behind it. This will save time, money and may look more visually interesting.

Personally, I was not keen on the alternative suggestions for the wheel. However, we were overall happy with how the meeting went. There were many good suggestions made on increasing the practicality of each set. But all were greenlit by the designers. I think the trace used with coloured lighting for the dance element will carry on the theme of lighting through the video. We can also play around with different colours and styles of lighting, we will discuss this further.
